Bid for settlement in Nyanda-Mohlala dispute Posted 26 July 2010
The dispute between Communications Minister Siphiwe Nyanda and estranged Director-General Mamodupi Mohlala took a new twist yesterday when a 'settlement' was suggested by both parties, writes Business Day.
This follows an earlier threat by Mohlala to 'interdict' the Minister if he failed to provide details of a series of events he claimed had led to the 'breakdown of trust and confidence' between them. A 'settlement' could end the impasse that has paralysed the department, the report notes. The dispute became public last week after Nyanda changed his DG's terms of reference. It was claimed that he removed her oversight over tenders as people close to him stood to benefit. It is understood that Mohlala has been suspended. Full Business Day report
He doesn't say much about either his own or his department's problems, but a question and answer interview with Nyanda in the Financial Mail is worth a look. It tackles the rumoured suspension of his director-general, tender awards and big spending. Full Financial Mail interview
